The 7-Step Action Plan
Here, we walk through some of our recommendations on how to further your professional growth and help out with the group.
|
Step 1: Join the LinkedIn group
The LinkedIn group is our primary form of communication. We often post topics there, and of particular importance are details regarding our upcoming conferences.
Join it now!
Here is the direct link to the WMOUG group on LinkedIn.

Step 2: Subscribe to these FREE magazines
InfoWeek and Oracle Magazine are 2 must-have magazines that you should subscribe to.
InfoWeek is a light, weekly magazine which keeps you up-to-date on current IT trends. Click here to subscribe.
Between the articles and marketing, Oracle Magazine keeps you aware of what's happening in the Oracle space. Click here to subscribe.
|
|
Step 3: Attend the WMOUG conferences
Most of you already attend, so keep on coming! Also, bring along peers and colleagues so that they can benefit from the technical presentations as well.
The goal of these conferences is to learn, network, and have a shot at winning some freebies!
|
|
Step 4: Vote on the LinkedIn polls
There are going to be many polls on LinkedIn, so please vote!
By voting, it gives us an idea of what you are looking for and what we can do to improve.
Thank you!
|
|
Step 5: Get certified
It's never too early nor too late to get an Oracle certification. Yes, it takes some time and effort, but the risk is low and the benefits are great.
Every conference, we'll remind people of the benefits of achieving an Oracle certification and how to best go about it.
A list of all Oracle certifications can be found here.
|
|
Step 6: Present at WMOUG conferences
Presenting is not as difficult as it seems. Contact us and we'll guide you through what you need to do to prepare. It is both rewarding and contributes to your professional reputation.
Every time we go out to dinner with other Oracle colleagues, everybody either has a success or horror story they bring up. Why don't you share this? We all would love to hear it!
|
|
Step 7: Consider volunteering
We won't lie to you. Volunteering is a thankless job, but it's rewarding in its own way.
Whether it's maintaining our website or contributing to the LinkedIn group, you're helping out. Volunteering is the first step in getting you exposure to how WMOUG (and the larger IOUG) operates. Expand your network and find yourself being reached out to by other professionals and companies in the long run!
